Friday march 13th 2008:
New layout!!
by Rob Dresser
75 yard start straight into a Talledaga Bowl left turn...onto first tabletop (new starting gates too), then right hander by the spectator area (4 bike lengths wide), into a double/tabletop, then into the LOF...mostly 20 feet wide track now too...top of hill has been COMPLETLY groomed ! Drop off after that is, just that..a drop off (no more kick)...following corner was pushed further out to form a sand/bowl turn...exiting that is a double...little step into bowl is gone, and just wide groomed track leading into the bowl turn(again, even the wall was groomed)...ski jump has the BEST take off....more table tops into the valleys...last step was moved down the hill 5 feet, and is ALLLL the way across now...there's more but I'm tired of typing ! Pee-Wee land is gone now, to allow for more parking...big parking hill there now, until we move and use the dirt.

Track changes coming in a couple weeks by Kirk

If the weather holds out, I will be able to change it in a couple weeks when I get some time off of work. Change of direction, leap of faith and the step after it will be back. It will be cut to drain well so we hopefully won't miss much riding time, same as last year.

Wednesday September 5th:
Track cleanup/improvement under way (by Rob Dresser)

Went out and "fixed" some areas that we feel you'll enjoy....
First and second tabletops were made bigger, better, and resurfaced
Right hand corner before the tabletop into the second bowl turn was pushed back, and the riser straight coming out of it was built back up for more of a lofting feel, and better traction.
Big tabletop into the second bowl turn was made bigger, better, and resurfaced
Straight away from the second bowl turn was widened dramatically down to the right hander by the LOF
First jump next to the LOF of the "three scrub jumps" was resurfaced
Big downhill leading to the street was back filled all the way up the hill, and the left hand corner at the bottom is now deeper, and more of a run back up the hill, with a slight jump feel to it
And there is more being done tomorrow and Wednesday

Monday August 20th 2007:
Tuesday Nights end last week of August, Saturdays now open till 3pm:

Due to low rider turnout on Tuesday nights, CM will no longer be open on Tuesdays starting September. August 28th will be the last Tuesday night.

Kirk Adds: unfortunatly , tuesdays have cost us money since we started them . we tried to make a go of it , but we just havn't gotten the numbers we need to keep it up . as soon as school starts , i believe it will really die down . thursdays have historicaly allways been better than tuesdays for rider turn out and this will give us more time to work on the track as the jump lips are all pretty blown out . In the interest of staying alive , we need to cut back a little . sorry . the track will be in better shape on the days we are open .

CM will stay open one hour later on Saturdays. New Saturday hours are 9am-3pm.

Sunday August 12th 2007:
Rob Dresser helping out with prep, new layout soon:

Rob Dresser Has been helping out with track prep and issues. Please contact him if you have any ideas or concerns.
A current track layout picture is now up. Sorry for taking so long.

The track layout will be reversed and reworked the last few days of August.

Tuesday May 8th 2007:
Now open for Mini Practice on tuesday nights
from Kirk
I have been getting some heat from people about not letting minis on the track at the same time as big bikes . Recently ,a 50cc rider was killed by an 80cc rider during a practice session back east . The childs mother wants to hold the promoter " criminaly negligent " for allowing them on the track at the same time . This is part of the reason why 80's are not allowed on the track at the same time as big bikes , at least when we are crowded . It has nothing to do with speed , some of these kids are extremely good riders and faster than alot of the full size bikes ( one of the 50s was clearing the l.o.f. 2 weeks ago ! ). It has more to do with the size differential between a full size bike and rider and an 80 pound kid . I know that this decision is costing Club Moto money but my concern is for the safety of the young riders and my own family , who have allready suffered a lawsuit and bankruptcy .

So , we now have mini night on tuesdays . 20 minute sessions at 5,6,7, and if enough are still here , 8 pm also . other than those times , open practice as usual . when not riding on the big track the minis have the beginner track to ride on .Also , sundays after about 2 pm , the crowd dies down and we will let minis out then as well . I hope tuesday nights pick up soon as it cost a lot of money to prep Club Moto and the turn outs have been small .

p.s. we tried splitting practice on saturdays . we got 4 minis and pissed off the big bikes .

Wednesday April 11th 2007:
Major track changes in the works:

The main track is being completely reworked and will run the opposite direction. Kirk, Brian Dominguez, and a few others are working on it now. Read more about it on the morcalmx message boards.

Sunday April 8th 2007:
Track prep awesome, New layout coming, beginner track updated:

The track prep lately has been awesome. I rode on saturday 4/7 and it was great with the exception of a few long ruts and one muddy corner.
Kirk is planning to rework the track layout soon. Stay tuned.
The beginner track now has a few optional jumps that are a bit more difficult than the easy stuff. Still very beginner-friendly but should add some fun for folks who are bored with the layout but aren't quite ready for the big track yet.
A watering hose was broken last week on the beginner track so it's been dry and dusty. It should be fixed soon.
The clutch exploded on the tiller on saturday. Click here to read about it.

Sunday March 18th 2007:
Opening Tuesday Nights in April, Eye on the Bay TV shoot:

Starting in April, Club Moto will be open on tuesday nights for segmented mini/big bike practices. This will allow the little guys to get some time on the big track without big bikes.
Thursday April 5th will be a TV shoot for "Eye on the Bay". See details on the NorCal Motocross Message Board.

Thursday February 1st:
Drastically Improved Lighting by Kirk
monday till 12:30 am , tuesday till 1 am , and tonight till 9 pm . finally we ( ME , MIKE APICELLA , SCOTT VREELAND , PAT MORGAN ,KENNY and a couple of my employees ) got to spend time fixing the lights at the track which have sucked BADLY since we reopened in september . I rented a 65' man lift ( $ 600 a day hence the late nights to get done )and put 12,000 aditional watts of lighting on the track and cleaned and reajusted most of the rest . the lighting is about 100% better . next week I will finish the remainder of the poles and start riding thurday nights myself , which I haven't done till now because the lights were so poor . they are honestly 2 or 3 times better now . see you guys thursday !

Monday January 8th:
Minor track changes, Norcal Ride Day, Riding Classes:
The track has had a few minor changes. The Leap of Faith now has a long sloped landing. This allows riders to go as far as they like. Lots of intermediate guys are now jumping the whole thing. The split section with whoops and a double are changing. The right now has a couple whoops before a hump and is still pretty technical. The rest of the track is pretty much the same. The prep was great on sunday.
NorCalMX Ride Day is Saturday January 13th (if the weather cooperates). See the posts on norcalmx.com for more info.
Terry Bostard will again be doing Free Riding Clinics on the first saturday of each month starting in february.

Friday November 24th:
Saturdays now back to Open Practice:
Kirk has changed the practice schedule to remove segmented practices on Saturdays. Club Moto will now be open for regular open practice on Saturdays as well as Sundays and Thursday nights.

Tuesday November 21st:
New double and rythm section:
The "Stairs of despair" whoop section is now removed and in its place are a 70 foot double with a smaller 6-section rythm section option. Kirk added more drainage pipes today and the track should be in great shape after rains.

Monday November 20th:
Minor Track Changes, Killer Prep:
The Whoop section has been removed and Kirk is planning to add a rolling section on the left and a double on the right.
The Prep has been incredible lately. Kirk and crew are doing a great job at keeping the track in perfect condition. Kirk is also planning to build a 3' diameter drum out of expanded metal to roll behind the tiller. This will help pre-pack some of the larger stuff and make for conditions the same as last weekend's absolutely perfect soil all the time. The track now has really good drainage and typically is in good shape within a day of rain.

Monday October 22nd: from Kirk
New Segmented Saturday Schedule: Saturdays have been slow enough that we only split practice once for the mini's. otherwise its been open practice with a slower crowd of riders than sunday. Sunday wasn't as crowded as usual and we ran open practice all day without it getting too crazy. I would rather not have to separate the sessions if we don't have to, so unless we get 50 or more people on the track at once, then we'll let it run. I have found that once you split practice, it becomes a race every time you let a new group out and it seems to contribute to more falls. I would still like to have enough minis on saturday to split it for them, but I don't think it will be necessary to separate big bike practice so the new schedule will look like this.
9 to 11 open practice
11 to 11:15 minis
11:15 to 12 open
12 to 12:15 minis
12:15 to 1 open
1 to 1:15 mionis
1:15 to 2 open
hopefully this will work better for you guys.

Wednesday October 11th:
STEPS OF INSANITY:
Now finished and ready to ride at Club Moto on thursday , northern california's newest obstacle , the " STEPS OF INSANITY " An uphill section of steps you can double on the right side or bumps you can roll on the left . Club Moto's layout is now finished ( for now ! ) and is setup to drain for winter .

Monday October 2nd:
CM Now open on Saturdays!
Starting NEXT Saturday, oct 7th, Club Moto will be open on saturdays for STRUCTURED practice. In an effort to separate ability groups, we've come up with the following:

FAST GROUP : pros, intermediates, vet pros and intermediates, FAST juniors, riders who will do ALL the jumps pretty much every lap, every time.

SLOW GROUP : mid pack juniors, beginners, newbies and first time riders not used to the track yet. Riders who do none of the jumps to riders who do MOST of the jumps.

MINIS : 50s, 60s, 80s, ttr125s, xr 150s and women.

You will be asked at sign-up to rate yourself and will be issued a sticker. Please be honest as we will be watching practice for riders in the wrong group. We hope this will separate the fastest riders from the slowest to help avoid collisions and make for a safer and more enjoyable time.

9am to 10 am open
10 am to 10.20 mini practice ( 50s,60s,and 80s + ttr125s etc )
10.20 to 10.40 fast practice ( pros , int , FAST juniors , does ALL jumps )
10.40 to 11 am slow practice ( begginers & newbies , does no jumps to more than 1/2)
11am to 11.20 minis
11.20 to 11.40 fast
11.40 to 12 am slow
12am to 12.20 minis
12.20 to 12.40 fast
12.40 to 1 pm slow
1pm to 1.20 minis
1.20 to 1.40 fast
1.40.to 2pm slow
track closes @ 2pm to prep for sunday.

Sunday September 24th:
The track was in great shape today. The "Leap of Faith" has a new takeoff ramp reworked by Kirk. There are also now More Whoops in the section before the right-hand uphill step-up jump. Kirk and crew are doing a great job at making Club Moto better and better.

Food and drinks are now available on sundays as well. Not sure if they're there Thursday nights though.

Tuesday September 19th:
There's a new, better aerial shot of the track on the Layout page. Check it out.
The PeeWee track is in place and the kids like it. It's got a long high-banked berm and a bigger rolling hill to go over.

Thursday September 14th:
I now have an aerial view of the track on the layout page of the site. Thanks to RJ Aerial Photography for the pics. From the photo taken today it looks like the peewee track is in. I'll verify this on sunday the 17th when I go to CM myself to ride and take pix. - John

Monday September 4th:
HUGE THANKS to all the riders who showed up for the Grand Opening and making it a huge success! Here's a letter from Kirk:

I am overwelmed by the support I have gotten getting CLUB MOTO opened again . Thanks to everyone who came out on sunday and all the people who came out last Thursday for the pre opening ride . I'm filled with gratitude for the help I recieved getting going again , I COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS ALONE!

HUGE THANKS to PETERSON CATERPILLAR IN SAN LEANDRO for the beautiful equipment that they provided free of charge . Get your equipment rentals from them , they had a huge part in keeping the ball rolling .

HUGE THANKS to Mike Apicella for working on legal issues to keep us alive and running sign-in , a huge thankless job .

HUGE THANKS to Scott Vreeland for lining up the equipment and then operating it for SEVERAL DAYS when he has a buisness with a real job to take care of .

HUGE THANKS to MDK MOTORSPORTS for cash contributions that payed to fix the equipment and expenses to open the track

HUGE THANKS to Steve Karmen for all the fantastic dozer work he put into the CLUB . He was there for about a week and even took a couple days off work and brought his own tractor out .

HUGE THANKS to Scott Mallory for the LATE nights he put in on the tractors ( 3.30 am last Wednesday and late again Saturday ) it helped keep me motovated to keep going ( no sleep at all weds , i was watering @ 5.30 thursday morning as traffic started lining up on altamont pass rd. )

HUGE THANKS to Pat Morgan for a cash loan ( unsolicited )and electrical work right when i needed it .

HUGE THANKS to Rob Dresser for steping forward at a time when the progress stalled right at first and offering to do what was needed to keep the ball rolling .

HUGE HUGE THANKS to Kenny and Laura and Kennys sons who worked tirelessly for the last month to get the facility presentable for opening day and to Kenny's excellent fabrication skills in getting the rototiller finished ( read complete remanufacture ) and staying with the project to finish it just in time ( 9.30 saturday evening )to get the track ready for sunday .

HUGE THANKS TO Roy Rose (MXSHOCK.COM)for his mechanical wizardry getting the rototiller fixed and getting my tractor started when it acted up

HUGE THANKS to Mike Parish, everyone and anyone else I have not named here but who came out last weekend and doing what needed to be done while I was layed up at home with the flu both days . I cannot thank you guys and gals enough for helping get CLUB MOTO back on its feet again . It makes me feel wonderful to know the facility is so loved and apreciated .

I APOLOGIZE TO ANYONE I MAY HAVE NEGLECTED TO NAME, YOU HAVE NOT BEEN FORGOTTEN.

NOW THE ISSUES
1. Sign in was a fiasco because we don't have our own insurance in place yet so we had to have the riders sign every waiver we could find to stay out of trouble . this should be resolved very soon and will speed things way up .

2. track conditions . since this was first cut and prep on a dry layout ( no water for over a month ) some of the jump faces deteriorated . i will have more time to pack them in now that the basic layout is in place . also , some areas didnt flow as well as i would have liked but as I get time to ride the track , this will change . more specifically , the off camber in the middle of the track that no one seems to like but me . allright , allready , i'm going to change it !! also , the track layout before the leap of faith ( the big hump jump in front ) will be changed to line up a better run at it and the face will be rebuilt a.s.a.p.

3. PEE WEE track will be in soon so i can put some little jumps on the beginner track .

AGAIN , THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT , CLUB MOTO WILL CONTINUE TO IMPROVE IN THE COMING WEEKS AND ONCE AGAIN BE ONE OF THE PREMIER MOTOCROSS / RIDING FACILITYS IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA !

KIRK SMITH

I would also like to add a big thanks to Pam Smith, Kirk's wife, for putting up with him and supporting him through all of this. I know it must be tough for her and for that I say Thanks a Million.

Saturday September 2nd:
The main track and beginner track are now complete. The beginner track is still fairly loose and will need some time with riders on it to pack down. The main track is shaping up, there are a few spots that still need some work but overall it's very good.

I'll have pictures of the layout and various sections of the track up on Monday the 4th, a day after the Grand Opening.

Don't forget - 2007 season passes are now on sale and cover the rest of 2006 and all of 2007 for only $750. See Kirk at the track or Contact him directly to buy a season pass.

Thursday August 24th:
The new site is up and should contain all accurate information. Many thanks to Kirk Smith, Mike Apicella, and Rob Dresser for tireless work on the track and to Racer X Illustrated for exposure.
CM will hold its Grand Opening on Sunday September 3rd 9am-5pm. CM will be open thereafter on Sundays and Thursdays to allow proper time to prep the track in between practice days.
